In light of today's announcement (see below) from our league leadership, the Executive Board will be meeting to revise plans and budgets for the upcoming season. Registration will not be opened until those plans are finalized. Please keep an eye out for additional communication from us by the end of this week.
We thank-you for your patience and understanding in these challenging times,
~DHA Executive Board
Dear BTHL Members,
We know many of you have been waiting for news on our plans for the 2020-21 season, and appreciate your patience as we have been discussing a variety of options in light of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.
As we have communicated previously, our priorities are the health and welfare of the players, coaches, volunteers and families while trying to create a way for teams to schedule games and allowing kids to play some hockey if the circumstances allow for it.
Our league covers four states, all of which may have different and changing restrictions regarding public facilities, travel, and essential activities. Additionally, teams may experience different levels of medical risk or quarantine requirements at any time. As a volunteer association, we do not see a way we can require teams to pay for and schedule a normal league season with this amount of uncertainty.
Therefore, we regret that we are unable to offer our normal travel hockey league this season. Our plan is to allow team registration through the BTHL website so that teams can contact each other, schedule games, and record scores. We will not be holding a seeding tournament or any form of in-person team evaluation. Teams will need to self-assess and identify their level of play so that competitive, fun games can be scheduled. There will NOT be a registration fee. We will then evaluate in December whether we are able to offer any type of league, league event, or tournament in 2021.
The BTHL is not requiring teams to play this year, or to schedule any specific number of games. Scheduling games and participating in games should be done at each team’s own discretion and risk. Teams should be prepared for the possibility that a rink facility may be closed, or that scheduled opponents will be unable to travel. Teams should have alternate plans prepared for all ice time purchased. The BTHL will not be involved in resolving or mediating any disputes between teams regarding schedules, facilities, travel, or expenses.
If your team would like to use the BTHL web site to share information for scheduling with other teams, please complete the online registration by August 31, 2020. We also ask that teams enter scores of their games so that we may use them for seeding purposes if the reevaluation in December determines that we can organize or hold a league or league event after that time. If it becomes possible to hold a league or league event after the December reevaluation, a fee for participation in the BTHL will be determined and required at that time.
Please stay safe and prevent the spread of COVID-19 by following federal, state, local and USA hockey laws, suggestions and guidelines. Get the most up to date information provided by USA Hockey on how they are dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic at https://www.usahockey.com/playersafety .
